5 reasons traveling in a protective style is bomb

Hello, hello!! I just got back from living my best life in LAS VEGAS. I had a great time visiting my family and showing my boyfriend around the city (it was his first time). For the past year, I have truly been averse to putting my hair in long term protective styles. As I mentioned in an earlier blog post, long-term protective styling leads to one thing for me . . . LAZINESS.  But my boyfriend encouraged me to try something new after my last hair trim and I went ahead and put my hair in braids using the rubber band method. I wrote a post about it here if you are interested.

While away in that lovely city, I couldn’t help but be grateful for all the benefits long-term protective styling on a vacation entails. So for all of you out there with trips coming up, I decided to make a post on the benefits of tucking those ends away while out on vacation.

1) You don’t have to bring as much product!

This is a big deal for us who use the LOC method. When your hair is in a long-term protective style, you don’t have to bring all your leave-in conditioners, co-washes, oils, moisturizing creams, styling creams, or gels. Just pack an empty water bottle and maybe a little oil and you’re good to go!

2) Bad weather can’t hold you down!

Humidity, rain, or excessive dryness can’t stop you from looking great in every picture.  Your hair is locked away, safe from the elements.

3) You save on styling time!

Now I can come up with some cute natural hairstyles, but they take time and generally do not last the whole week (especially if the weather is bad – see point above).  When your hair is in a long-term protective style, however, all you generally have to do is wake up, unwrap your hair, fluff and go. This is especially perfect if you spent the night on the town and are expected to be up and ready to go eat breakfast with the grandparents in the morning (true story :P).

4) Wash Day My Foot!

Now, even when you have a longterm protective style in, you need to keep your scalp clean. But that doesn’t mean you need to wash it during that week you are on vacation. Wearing a long-term protective style gives you a chance to cheat on wash day! But again, make sure to wash your hair when you get back. Don’t be lazy like me!

5) There is less chance of breakage from over manipulation.

This is the biggest pro!! Wearing your hair in a long-term protective style saves your ends from over-manipulation. If you are anything like me, you want to look cute in every picture. You also want to look perfect when you step out for a nice dinner or for some boogie’ing on the dance floor! If I wasn’t wearing my hair in a long-term protective style, I would probably be changing my ‘do on the daily, which would not be great for my hair. Wearing my hair in a long-term protective style saved me from myself.

So those are my top five reasons wearing a long-term protective hairstyle is bomb while traveling. What are your thoughts? Please share them in the comments below.

As always, thank you so much for reading and happy traveling!
